Octuplets Mom Nadya Suleman Needs Mental Evaluation
By now the whole world has probably heard of Nadya Suleman, the 33-year-old woman who gave birth to octuplets. She already has 6 kids and now has 8 more - for an insane total of 14 kids. I say it’s insane for multiple reasons.
She’s single, unemployed, living with her parents, and her other kids aren’t healthy. Why would she bring 8 more kids into the world when she can’t care for the ones she already has?
I feel sorry for the kids because they are the ones who will suffer because of their mother’s lack of ____ (you fill in the blank). It would be hard for a couple with good steady jobs to care for this many kids and pay the enormous doctor bills, food, diapers, etc etc etc. There is no possible way Nadya Suleman can do it on her own, even with the best of intentions. So guess who will foot the bill folks? Yep - WE WILL! She seriously needs counseling and evaluation for a possible mental condition.
Does this make me angry? Yes. BUT the people who are posting death threats to her make me just as angry. She needs help - mental help - not death threats.
What do you think will happen once the babies are released from the hospital?
Will the press move on and the public quiet down? Or will the media frenzy continue? I think there is a lot of anger over the financial situation, mostly because the state of California is going to end up paying the large hospital bill, while the state tumbles further into financial trouble.
Residents of California are likely not to get a tax refund this year if they are due. Social service payments to seniors, foster families, etc. are being cut off in some counties.
I think this is part of the reason why people are angry enough to threaten death. It’s a shame.
I for one am hoping that social services does become involved in some way. I heard a news report this morning that said Suleman’s mother was going to bury the hatchet and help out, but I still think this is too big for just the 2 of them.
I don’t know about taking custody of any of the kids, but they should at minimum be monitored by social services. The few pictures we’ve seen of Suleman’s home are scary at best, and does zoning laws there even permit a family of 15 to live in a 2 or 3 bedroom house??
I think she really does love all those children, but she’s still not getting it. She needs to swallow her pride and start asking for help…now. And not money…she needs to line up some volunteers and a support system to help manage and care for those hungry babies.
